| St Louis Rams The St. Louis Rams are an NFL team that play their home games in the Edward Jones Dome. The Rams have been in St. Louis for over 16, but hold the distinction of being one of the most move teams in the NFL. The St. Louis Rams franchise started in Cleveland and has been moved to Los Angeles, Anaheim and St. Louis. The Cleveland Rams played their first season in the American Football League, but would join the NFL the next season. The team would have to sit out the 1943 season due to a lack of players resulting from World War 2. The Rams continue play in the NFL the following season, but would not achieve a successful season until the 1945 season. The 1945 season saw the Rams finish with 9 wins and a victory in their first NFL Championship game against the Washington Redskins. While the Rams managed to win the NFL championship in the 1945 season, it was also their last season in Cleveland. The Rams would move to Los Angeles for the start of the following season. African Americans were not allow to play in the NFL at this time, but a stipulation was made that would not allow the team to move to Los Angeles until African Americans were allowed in the league. The Rams became the first team with African American players after they signed two players from UCLA in the off-season. After the move to Los Angeles, the Rams would play in the NFL Championship game four times in the first ten years. Despite this success in the regular season, the Rams would only manage to win one championship during this time in 1951. The years following the championship would only see marginal success for the Rams until the 1970's. After failing to make the playoffs much of the previous decade, the Rams would win their division 8 straight times starting in 1973. In the 1979 season, the Rams would barely make the playoffs with a 9-7 record but they would ride a winning streak all the way to the Super Bowl. Playing in their first Super Bowl in nearby Pasadena, the Rams would lose to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Rams would move once again in the 1980 season following their Super Bowl loss. The Rams would move to Anaheim, CA, but would still be referred to as the L.A Rams. The Rams would make the playoffs 7 times during the 1980's, but would have little success in the next decade. The Rams were one of the worst teams in the NFL during the 1990's, which resulted in a move to St. Louis. The Rams played their first season in St. Louis in 1995, and would struggle until the 1999 season. The 1999 season started very badly for the Rams, losing their starting quarterback in the preseason. An unknown quarterback named Kurt Warner would lead the Rams to their first Super Bowl victory. The Rams would make the playoffs the next four season and one more Super Bowl, but would not win. The Rams have struggle since the 2004 season, but their is new hope that the team can return to prominence again. |
