Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars are an NFL franchise located in Jacksonville, Florida. They are a team that competes in the American Football Conference South division. The Jaguars' division rivals in the AFC South division are the Indiannapolis Colts, the Houston Texans and the Tennessee Titans. Other rivalries involved the Jaguars include former AFC Central rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns. Most teams get off to a rocky start when they first enter the NFL, but the Jacksonville Jaguars were a team to be reckoned with almost immediately.

When the Jaguars entered the league in 1995 as an expansion team, they made their presence known from day one. With a record of four wins and twelve losses in their inagural season, the Jaguars broke the previous record for most wins in a season by an expansion team, which was previously three wins, held by the 1968 Cincinnatti Bengals. The first season in the history of the jaguars wasn't the most successful one, but the pieces were already in place for future success. The four main pieces of what would become a formidable Jaguars team was on the 1995 roster, including Mark Brunell, the quarterback, Jimmy Smith, the wide receiver, Tony Boselli, the mammoth offensive linemen, and James Stewart, the team's first good running back.

In 1996, their second NFL season, the Jacksonville Jaguars arrived on the scene with a vengeance. The team won six of its final seven games en route to the franchise's first ever playoff birth. They finished the 1996 season with a record of nine wins and seven losses, and they clinched the fifth seed in the AFC playoffs as a wildcard. In their first playoff game ever, the Jaguars defeated the Bills, then they upset to dominant Denver Broncos in the next round of the playoffs. In only their second year of play, the Jacksonville Jaguars had reached the AFC Championship. They fell one game short of the Super Bowl, however, as they fell to the New England Patriots.

In 1998, the Jaguars became the first ever expansion team in NFL history to advance to the playoffs in four of their first five seasons. This is a feat that truly exciting the fans in jacksonville, and led them to pack the stadium like never before. However, it didn't take long for the good times to end. Under the constraints of the NFL salary cap, the jaguars were unable to keep many of their most talented players, and the team faltered in subsequent years. 1999 through 2002 were tumultuous times for the Jaguars, as they saw their legendary quarterback, Mark Brunell, leave the team, as well as Tony Boselli.

Since 2002, the Jaguars have risen again and won a few playoff games. They beat the Steelers in the 2007 playoffs in Pittsburgh, and in the process, they became the first team ever to beat the Steelers twice at home in the same season. The upstart Jaguars have accomplished a lot in their short time as an NFL franchise. The only thing really missing from their legacy to this point is a trip to and victory in the Super Bowl.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are a proud NFL franchise, and one that will always be a threat in the NFL. It is only a matter of time until they claim their first Super Bowl victory, and cement themselves into the annals of NFL history.
